Skydiving over Las Vegas

What better way to celebrate six years of marriage than to jump out of an airplane?! About two months before our vacation, I asked Dave if he wanted to go skydiving. He said yes and within about five minutes we booked our reservation! It's been on my bucket list my entire life but once it was about to become a reality, I was freaking out! Not a day went by that I didn't think of cancelling! Everything that could possibly go wrong entered my mind every single day. It was exhausting! And then the day before we jumped I was a complete wreck, haha. I just knew I would fall to my death and become a permanent landmark in Nevada! Obviously I was wrong, since I'm telling our story now. Ha!

We woke up at the crack of dawn to be there at 7:30. Once we got there it started pouring rain!! Great! We did our training, which consisted of a 7 minute video. Yep, that's it! We practiced our body position while falling and then went into another room where we literally signed our life away. And then we waited, and waited, and waited for the storm to pass. Once it finally passed, we got geared up, took a few pictures, met our instructors, my instructor was John, and loaded on the plane. There were six people in our group. Dave and I, and a mom, her two sons and a girlfriend. Dave and his instructor got in first, so they were at the very front of the plane, by the pilot, everyone else loaded in, and then I loaded in last, which meant I was the first one to jump. Lucky me! The first four people were in seats, but the girlfriend and I were literally just sitting on the floor of the plane and I was about an inch away from the door. The OPEN door!! They made me sit on the very edge of the plane the entire 15 minute flight with the door wide open. They do that because if they close the door, then it gets too hot in the plane! I guess staying cool is more important than my life haha.

This is when he told me we were only 2,000 feet in the air. It looked SO much higher than that!
He started hanging out of the plane to look down. We were strapped so tight to each other that I had no choice but to look down too. This was me trying to fight him on it!

Once we got to altitude, 15,000 feet, my instructor moved me into position (sitting on the edge with my feet curled up under the plane) I blew one last kiss to Dave and out we went! We did a flip out of the plane and started free falling at terminal velocity! 120 MPH! We were so high that we could see into California!! We saw Hoover Dam, the Las Vegas Strip, the Colorado River and so much more! We fell until about 8,000 feet which took us about 8-10 seconds, maybe it was longer but that's what it felt like, and then deployed our shoot. I was able to steer the shoot for a little bit before landing safely on the ground! Our time in the air was only about 4 minutes. It went SO fast! I was shocked at how soft of a landing it was. I even landed on my feet, Dave landed on his bum. I was able to watch Dave land and once he did I ran over and jumped in his arms. I was never so happy to have him in my arms again, on the ground! Sweet, sweet ground!

Skydiving was hands down the craziest thing I've ever done in my life! I love being able to check things off my bucket list, especially with Dave by my side! We loved every second of our skydiving experience and definitely recommend it to everyone! Our instructors took about a zillion pictures and we got a video for each of us. Worth. The. Money!! Now if only I could figure out how to upload my video to my blog.. Skydive Las Vegas did put a clip of my dive on youtube, so you can at least watch that.
