How to get a pee stain out of a mattress

As a mom of two, with hopefully another on the way soon, I've had my share of bed wetting. Four o'clock in the morning changing jammies and sheets are never any fun!! My five year old has never had any problems with wetting the bed. He potty trained really easy and never peed the bed. We don't even put plastic on his mattress! However, he's five. He still has the occasional accident. I'm talkin' maybe once a year he'll sleep too heavy and pee his bed. Not anything to be concerned about. Well, since school started back up his sleeping habits have changed. Drastically! During summer break he would stay up until about 10:00 PM and sleep until about 10:00 AM. The kid loves his sleep! He easily wakes up at night if he needs to relieve that tiny bladder of his up until about two weeks ago. Now that he's in school he goes to bed at about 8:00 and wakes up at 6:30. He's not used to waking up so early, going to a full day of school, coming home and playing hard and then crashing. And because he's so exhausted by the time he goes to bed, he's been sleeping very heavy which has caused him to pee his bed, twice!

So what did I do? Took it to google! Because that's my answer for everything!! Every website I looked at offered two solutions. One was to rub Borax on the stained mattress and one was to make a concoction and spray it on it. I obviously wasn't going to put Borax all over my son's mattress so I went with option number two! And you guys, it worked amazingly!

Here's what you need:

a measuring cup
tablespoon
funnel
spray bottle

8 ounces hydrogen peroxide 3%
3 tablespoons of baking soda
1 drop liquid hand dish soap

Directions:

Pour hydrogen peroxide into the spray bottle, add the baking soda and wait for it to dissolve. Then add the drop of dish soap. Swish the ingredients and start spraying that stained mattress! I'm not sure if you're supposed to but I used almost the entire concoction on the mattress. It said to be generous, ha! Anyways, the best part about it is there's NO scrubbing involved!! Simply spray and walk away! Scrubbing? Ain't nobody got time for that!

The mixture only works if you use it immediately, because the byproducts are active for only a short amount of time. You should see the stain start to lift and disappear in 5-10 minutes. But to be honest it took a few hours for it to completely disappear. Once the mattress dries, if the baking soda film remains just vacuum it up! Voila!!

Before
Don't worry, those brown spots are just chocolate milk stains, I promise! And the solution even removed most of those chocolate milk stains.

After

That'll do pig, that'll do.
